Karmila Harder, Group Coordinator

Growing up in a multicultural household, facilitating and living between cultures was a natural skill that I acquired. This comes to no surprise that my educational and work background involved both participating in outbound exchange programs to Japan and Korea as well as volunteer and work with inbound programs here in BC. After getting my Bachelor’s Degree in Pacific Asian Studies, I participated in the JET Programme in Japan as an Assistant Language Teacher for three years before returning to Canada to complete a Master’s  Degree in East Asian Studies. I understand the positives and negatives that come with cross-cultural experiences and interactions but simultaneously thrive in the exchange of knowledge through the interaction. I enjoy travelling a lot but when I don’t have the time for an extended break, I travel through reading or going to see movies, musicals, and/or theatre productions. I want to facilitate the value in cross-cultural communication and pique the interests in our students about the great things Canadian culture  can offer, one international student group at a time.

What I like about working at MLI: I like that my workplace encourages diversity and cross cultural interactions both in the office and out in the field.
