Based in Tokyo, the Director MLI Japan leads the development and execution of strategies to drive profitable sales growth for the Japanese Market under the MLI brand, while ensuring CISS Camps are a market leader. This role is integral to driving the plan to realize our mission - to lead in Canadian education experiences for students worldwide.

With a demonstrated commitment to excellence and a creative vision for entrepreneurial and innovative initiatives, the Director MLI Japan is responsible for providing exceptional hands-on leadership and excels in all aspects of sales, strategic planning, client relations, and resource management (including financial and human resources).   This position is focused on selling vs. management, the Director MLI Japan will be on the road meeting clients, not in the office.

Reporting to the, President & CEO, the Director MLI Japan will be responsible for advancing the MLI brand as a leader in the international education industry, by focusing on sales initiatives, key stakeholder and agency/school relationships and innovative and consumer focused initiatives.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

Sales & Account Management

·      In partnership with the Executive team and Global Sales Team, develop the sales strategy for the Japan market, including promoting the brand, products and services throughout Japan. 

·      Lead the recruitment and management of agent relationships in Japan, by building and facilitating long lasting relationships between all partners and the Japan sales team. This includes travelling to attend recruitment and promotional activities and managing key accounts and operational issues as they arise.

·      The Director MLI Japan will have key school partner relationships to manage and will be “hands-on” dealing with issues that may arise and supporting the agents or teachers to solve problems quickly.

·      Ensure the promotion of all product lines to grow revenues and

·      MLI services and values through effective:

o   Sales Presentations to agents, schools and students

o   Materials online and in print

o   Seminars and fairs (Education and general Tourism)

o   Training of agents

o   Familiarization tours

o   Pricing and incentive strategies

·      Day to day consultation on sales and marketing issues and corresponding with agent partners, as required

·      Research, analyze, develop, and manage sales plans and strategies. Including in-depth knowledge and understanding of all regions and client segments. Understanding market dynamics, the competitive landscape, consumer behaviour and individual client goals.   

 

·      Aid in the development of marketing materials and new products, including evaluating and supporting the development of promotions and campaigns

·      In conjunction with Marketing team drive the strategy for on-line presence and social media

·      Forecast and report on agents’ performance as well as economic and other factors for Japan; manage sales statistics and create meaningful metrics for the market  

·      Proactively manage the MLI reputation in Japan, including collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, where required

·      Develop and manage an effective feedback loop between the MLI agent network and the Operations team in Canada

·      Other duties as required.

·      Support the ongoing development and implementation of the MLI mission, vision and sales goals as well as ongoing development and evolution of its products and services.

·      Manage and retain a team that is committed to excellence and who individually align with the company’s goals and values

·      Train, motivate and develop staff to meet the current and future needs of the marketplace; annual evaluation of staff performance 

·      Determine and execute a strategy for new business opportunities to maximize long-term business potential and sustainability

·      Work on Global or Cross Functional project teams as appropriate

·      Other duties as required

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

·      Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in international sales, with a strong link to the education industry / in senior management roles at either Private Schools or Ministry of Education

·      Fluency in English, written and oral communications

·      Undergraduate degree/ Master’s degree an asset

·      Demonstrated ability to grow sales in a fast paced, dynamic and competitive environment.

·      Understanding of planning and procurement cycles of Tour Operator and Education Agent distribution networks in Japan

·      Comprehensive working knowledge and understanding of Canada as an education destination for the K-12 student market

·      Understanding of the international education industry landscape, including in-depth knowledge of the Japanese education system - Elementary, Junior and Senior High schools in Japan

·      Able to travel domestically in Japan and on occasion to Canada - meeting Canada’s COVID-19 vaccine requirements
