Frequently Asked Questions About Our School
Programmes
How is the school year divided?
The academic year runs from the beginning
of September to the end of June. In most school systems, the
school year is divided up into two semesters September
to January and February to June.
Students
take a maximum of four courses in each semester, for a total
of 8 courses for the year. At the end of each semester final
exams are written.
There is a mid semester report with marks
and comments followed by a final semester report.
Holiday breaks when school is closed include:
summer break (end of June) to Labour Day (1st Monday of September),
Thanksgiving Day (October), 2 weeks over Christmas/New Years;
1 week in March usually the 2nd or 3rd week, Easter
and Victoria Day (May).
What is available to students
at the public schools?
There are a wide variety of courses available
- from the traditional maths, arts, sciences, physical education
and social studies to music, dramatic arts, business studies,
technology and computer science.
There are different levels of difficulty
available - from basic to advanced studies. Course offerings
vary by school.
Many support programmes are in place for
students, including ESL, tutoring, guidance counseling, career
planning and library services.
Campus facilities include a library,
gymnasium, cafeteria, sports fields and computer labs with
internet access.

Can I participate in extra curricular
activities?
Yes. Schools have an array of activities
that are available to students. Please be sure to inform us
in advance of any specific interest that you have so we can
place you in a school that offers what you are looking for.

Can I graduate from a Canadian high
school?
Yes. International students can graduate
from a Canadian public school and receive a diploma provided
they meet the minimum diploma requirements as determined by
the specific Provincial Board of Education. This information
is available upon request.
The length of time to graduate will depend
on the students performance.
How do I apply?
Complete an application form that outlines
your family life, personality, interests, aspirations, academic
history and medical history and describe what it is you hope
to achieve and experience during your stay in Canada.
